| Science Department Parent Information Letter Mr. Anthony J. Smith |
Dear Parents,
My name is Anthony J. Smith and I am the new English Modern School eighth grade science and tenth grade biology teacher. I have recently come from Damascus and I previously taught five years in Warsaw, Poland and two years in the United States.
I have high expectations of students and require them to come to class every day prepared to do their best. We will work together on the concepts and skills required of them from the science curriculum, and I will endeavor to enrich their program with critical thinking activities. Good listening skills, positive work habits and organization will be emphasized daily.
Homework and independent reading will be a part of this class; however, I would like to be informed if students are spending ‘unreasonable’ amounts of time doing their homework. I believe a healthy balance of ‘work and play’ will make a better student over the remainder of the year. Working hard in class should reduce the amount of work to be done at home.
Communication between you, as the parent, and I, the teacher, is key to ensuring the greatest success for your child and allow them to maximize their learning potential. If you have any questions or concerns or wish to let me know anything about your child, please do not hesitate to write or call me at school. You may check their assignments and what is being done in class by accessing my blog.
On Mondays and Tuesdays after school I will be providing an extra lesson each day to assist students with their work in science. For those who are already doing well I will provide challenging new science experiments for them to hone their skills and knowledge of the scientific method.
Best regards,
Anthony J. Smith
